Ken Campbell

Ken Campbell is an Australian composer, arranger and music educator who has taught at The Queensland Conservatorium of Music (19 years), at Stuartholme College for girls in Brisbane and at the Brisbane Boys Grammar School.  He studied with Alan Lane (Director of Studies from QCM) and holds a A.Mus.A (Theory of Music), and L.Mus.A (Theory of Music).  After further study Ken obtained a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from Durham University (UK) in 1985.

Ken is a professional member and past Councilor of the Music Teachers' Association of Queensland and regularly conducts workshops for the MTAQ.  He is a guitarist and bass guitarist with experience in popular music in general, jazz and classical guitar as a performer.

While having a parallel career as a Civil Engineering Designer and Draftsman, with qualifications in that field, Ken has maintained his music career also as an examiner in musicianship and music theory for the Australian Music Examinations Board (32 years), the last six of those years serving as Principal Examiner (Music Theory) for AMEB Qld.  He has been a member of a number of Specialist Theory Advisory Panels over many years.  After retiring from engineering and moving on from AMEB involvement, more time for composition has been made free in recent years.

Being a guitarist, Ken's music has been influenced at times by a Spanish idiom.  He has written music in various styles and formats, ranging from solo piano, piano accompaniment, harpsichord, string trio and quartet, organ preludes, string orchestra and orchestra.  As a composer and arranger he has written in the contemporary genre for combinationbs from jazz groups to 17 piece big band plus strings.
