Ric Mills is an award winning independent film composer, who, with a classical training has worked alongside a plethora of international directors, producers and conductors.  His powerfully emotive piano scores and undisputed talent as an orchestral, choral and electronic composer, has cemented his position as a prominent composer and educator within Australia and abroad.
Ric began his musical experience as a boy chorister, where he was introduced to the works of J S Bach, Olivier Messiaen, Vaughan Williams and Herbert Howells.  Heavily influenced by a strong British choral tradition he became assistant organist and choral director of Ormsirk Parish Church in the North West of England.  Building on his Bachelors in Music and Master's Degree in Composition from Kingston University London, Ric began a lifelong interest in music for screen and trained at Abbey Road and Sony Studios London with celebrated film composer and conductor, Nick Ingman. He continued his composition supervision at The London College of Music with renowned British Composer Dr Laurence Roman.
More recently Ric finished two feature films - Pitching Hope, a US feature set in Texas, an inspirational movie directed by Tony Mendoza and another European film Six Lovers, an Australian/French Movie based on love and betrayal directed by Joel Mielle and starring Hollywood Actor Cameron Daddo.

On the classical side, Ric was commissioned in 2009 by St. Mary's Cathedral, Sydney (adult singers) to create a special Mass setting, Missa Novus Vita, this work was subsequently recorded in the UK by Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Singers receiving particular accolade for his settings of 'Lamb of God' and 'God Be in My Head'.  More recently he has worked with Newcastle Cathedral in NSW.  Organist and Master of the Choristers' Peter Guy conducted a recording of his intensely personal and heartfelt suite for SATB/Organ, Reaching for Heaven.

A highly regarded authority in film composition, he has given guest lectures at the Australian Institute of Music, The International Conservatorium of Music and JMC.  In addition he has been in charge of content development for the music education program "Keyboard Evolution" - arranging well known scores and writing original music for the school keyboard music course widely used across Australia.

In September 2011 International Film Director Bruce Beresford and the panel of the 48Hour Festival NSW awarded Ric Best Film Score for his work on Tin Can Clan's Short Film, Something's Not Right.  He is a full writer member of APRA/AMCOS, The Australian Guild of Screen Composers and The British Academy of Songwriters and Composers.

Ric is currently coaching Music 2 HSC students at Canley Vale High School in NSW towards their major composition portfolio assessment, teaching with the South Western Sydney Institute TAFE and composing for screen remotely on a US feature film Surburban Backlot scheduled for release in 2013.
