The dynamic rhythmic counterpoint of one theme is felt against the melodic and harmonic sadness of the other theme. The piano is an ideal instrument to express the rhythmic intensity of this piece with its percussive qualities, is capable of achieving the illusion all pianists strive for: the cantabile. The work ends with some fireworks that will not disappoint anyone who loves the fireworks of virtuosic piano playing.
