Space Junk - CD

By Diana Weston

Regular price $25.00 Sale

Music of Space and Time
by Ann Carr-Boyd and Diana Blom

Diana Weston piano and harpsichord; Mary Sambell, piano and percussion; Joanne Arnott, recorder and Angus Ryan, cello

Music on this album transports the listener to other worlds. Imagine astral bodies in many different forms, colours and shapes.  Travel back in time to remember the joy, play and innocence of childhood, and hear the story of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, now over 90 years old, told in music. An ancient Chinese travelling band and the art of knitting Japanese-style are in there as well.

Spellbound - CD

By Phillip Wilcher

Regular price $25.00 Sale

"Phillip Wilcher is a man ‘spellbound’ by profound spirituality that he rationalizes with a natural philosophy that transcends most who live in the superficial world that confronts us today. There is a depth in him expressed by gentleness, kindness, and demonstrated by the great love that he exudes.  All this is tempered by discipline, precision, delicacy and firmness of touch that only the truest, yet finest of musicians can expound.  Of all the discs that he has produced this is the most aptly named, in that it summarizes a composer, musician and writer of integrity, and one of those rare beings who rises above all he encounters and yet remains very much one of us."   Brennan Keats

Music by Phillip Wilcher with Goetz Richter, violin, Minah Choe, cello and Jeanell Carrigan, piano.

Square Piano - Sounds of the Piano in Colonial Australia

  Diana Weston

We know the sound of the modern piano so well that that of the pianoforte in its infancy will seem almost as strange as it must have to the Aboriginal people whose lands had so recently become occupied. The pianofortes that came to Australia were English-made (as would be expected from the exclusive mix of English, Irish and Scottish immigrant), and were known as ‘square’ pianos. They were destined for a domestic market.  Thousands were imported into Australia in the first fifty years of the colony. Most have now disappeared or remain only as shells of their former selves – croaky-voiced and unplayable.

Stairway to the Moon - CD

By Ann Carr-boyd

Regular price $25.00 Sale

Music by Ann Carr-Boyd

The Staircase (or Stairway) to the Moon is a natural phenomenon caused by the rising of a full moon reflected on the exposed mudflats in Roebuck Bay in Western Australia at extremely low tide, to create a beautiful optical illusion of a stairway reaching to the moon. This spectacular sight occurs from March through to November.  Roebuck Bay is near Broome.

Ann's works performed by: The Steel City Strings conducted by Shilong Ye with harpist Verna Lee and concertmaster Kyle Little.
Other works include outstanding  performances by clarinetist Amy Whyte and pianist John Martin.

A dialogue in voice and song

Edgar “Yip” Harburg, an American lyricists known as “Broadway’s social conscience,” said, "Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought." This project strives to do just that through the exploration of new art songs for soprano, tenor, baritone, and piano. The project originated out of a need for English language duets between tenor and baritone and grew into much more. At its very essence the project is about the joys and struggles of life. It includes songs born out of the pandemic (Modern Folksong), everyday activities (Life & Southern Songs), and special moments in life (Set Me as a Seal). Anchoring these songs is Tangling with the Epic, a song cycle for tenor, baritone, and piano.

That Bloody Game

By Michael Halliwell, David Miller

Regular price $25.00 Sale

Australian World War I Songs performed by baritone Michael Halliwell and pianist David Miller.  The songs in this collection respond to the changing circumstances of the war. From recruitment in Australia, songs written for the precise purpose of getting men to join up, sometimes shaming them into doing so! For Australia, Gallipoli was the first 'big event' of the war, and then to the Dardanelles, and to France; to the home front and how the war affected civilians and celebrating the return of the forces. The songs also reflect the more serious side to which classical composers of the time responded to the war so creating many outstanding songs that can be heard on this recording.
The CD booklet portrays many of the original covers from the songs' scores.
