      Birdsong Rhapsody I draws on the songs of Australian birds, in this case it uses songs of the Pied Butcherbird. It incorporates melodic transcriptions of birdcalls but in come movements or sections, it transforms musical ideas found in the songs using thematic development techniques, typically moulding birdsong melodic ideas into dance-like structures or angular new music gestures.
