Five movements for saxophone quartet, c.7-7'45. Advanced level of difficulty.
- Prelude - A lyrical opening movement with some voicing. It gained another life somewhat transformed as “Natalya’s Aria” in my chamber opera, The Proposal.
- Chorale - This movement is ‘borrowed’ almost straight from No.7 of my children’s piano collection, Kids Bits also published by Wirripang.
- Dance - The dance bounces along in alternating pairs, each pair being a ninth apart for the most.
- Romance - Whimsical and lyrical in 5/8.
- Alla Turk - Dave Brubeck may be considered an inspiration for the finale, which just keeps bowling along in that infectious 2-2-2-3 rhythm he made so famous.

Threnody

For solo 'cello, c.8'00. Advanced level of difficulty
In terms of structure, the work is in a highly modified ternary form. The opening is solemn; the middle section somewhat more lyrical, breaking out into triplets and increasing urgency; but then the opening returns, and in many guises, before the descent to end. The performer is instructed to play using rubato (robbing and giving back the pulse) whilst meeting the demands in using a very wide compass of the cello range.
