Dracula's Castle is a short story depicted in Music.
The composition includes some extras that aim to help the Conductor. It includes a 3rd Violin part in place of the Viola part and a Cello2 part in place of Double bass. Due to the fact that the 3rd movement “Fuga/The Escape” is the most challenging in terms of technique, included is a facilitated score of this movement.
The composer's intent was to create a composition that teachers may use for didactic purposes in teaching music. The style of the composition itself is an example of “program music”. The purpose is to guide the listener so that he or she may be able to connect the story (narrative extra-musical part) to the music. It gives the teacher the opportunity to deepen the concept and provide examples of program music in musical history (e.g. Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition).

For solo piano. Grade 8 to AMus/LMusThe title and influences for this work come from two sources. First, the exquisitely detailed botanical illustrations y Elizabeth Cooper of the Australian rainforest tree, Stenocarpus sinuatus (Firewheel Tree), with its distinctive wheel-like inflorescences and mature fruits and seeds, shaped the work, the sound gestures and the sustain pedal as ‘sound brush’ colouring specified notes and note groups. The second influence was Deanna Petherbridge’s book, The Primary of Drawing (2010), which explains and illustrates technical drawing terms such as pentimento, grisaille, chiaroscuro, parerga, reverso, ébauche and line itself. Several of these have been drawn into the work. A companion piece for piano and toy piano (one player), Drawing Firewheels, exploressimilar sound concepts. The work was written for pianist, Michael Kieran Harvey, who gave its first performance.
