50 Alternative Harmonisations
10 Descants
10 New Hymn Tunes

This collection provides a variety of hymns that will be useful in an Australian context, as well as further afield, with some tunes hitherto untreated in this way, or rarely set along with some old favourites in a new guise. It is a selection that will have some items to suit those in various denominations of the Christian Church. Some arrangements can be used in more than one verse, others include descants to be sung by trebles/sopranos. See a selection of arrangements and new hymn tunes below.

Learn'd Astronomer, The

By Linda Dalgliesh

Regular price $8.00 Sale

SATB choir unaccompanied, c.2'40

This piece is a choral adaptation of Walt Whitman's short poem "When I Heard The Learn'd Astronomer", first published in 1865 in the anthology "Drum-Taps". Whitman's poem expresses distaste for an astronomy lecture, and preference for a personal experience of the night sky. The mood of this composition moves from hymn-like solemnity to discomfort, resolving in quiet and reverent joy.
Composed 2017
