This book is the first in a series of books that explores the concepts/elements of music, which are suitable for study in all JUNIOR, INTERMEDIATE and SENIOR Secondary Music Courses in New South Wales Higher School Certificate, Queensland Certificate of Education, The Western Australian Certificate of Education, Victorian Certificate of Education, South Australian Certificate of Education, Northern Territory Certificate of Education Training, the Tasmanian Certificate of Education and New Zealand Education System. 

BOOK ONE will explore the music concept/element PITCH, which has been broken down into 14 individual chapter components: tonality, definite and indefinite pitch, intervals (contour), melodic dictation, melodic ostinato, melodic unison, harmony, harmonic rhythm, harmonic ostinato, key change, melodic phrasing, melodic range, contour and dissonance. 

Each chapter has been designed to provide the educator and student accurate listening examples that will assist in the delivery, reinforcement and study of each component of Pitch. All questions and activities are included at the end of each chapter to enhance skills in aural practice and musicianship. 

The above audio download includes music excerpts from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic Eras. This will be used to assist in the melodic dictation activities outlined in chapter four.

Each chapter has been designed to provide the educator and student accurate listening examples that will assist in the delivery, reinforcement and study of each component of Duration. All questions and activities are included at the end of each chapter to enhance skills in aural practice and musicianship.

Over 150 artists/bands/composers are featured in the book, covering music from the 1700s to the 2000s in a wide variety of genres and styles such as: Avant Garde, Baroque, Blues, Classical, Contemporary, Country, Disco, Folk, Funk, Hip-Hop, Impressionism, Indie, Jazz, Metal, Pop, Rap, Rock, Romantic, RnB and Soul.

We have also included one chapter of material, which is based on Harmonic Rhythm, taken directly from Pitch Book 1.

A comprehensive resource textbook for Elective Senior Music

Senior Music is a collection of music pieces that are suitable for music study in years 10, 11 and 12.  It has been designed for the New South Wales Higher School Certificate (already covered in our published books 2 and 3), Queensland, Western Australian, Victorian, South Australian and Tasmanian Certificate of Education and Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training.  

Each topic explores the concepts/elements of music-pitch, duration/rhythm, texture, tone colour/timbre, structure/form, dynamics and expressive techniques, as well as unity and contrast.

Further exploration of each music work is enhanced through research questions in the Musicology section of the book.  This section requires the student to use the process of critical and creative thinking when investigating, analysing and evaluating the music.  

All exercises and questions are designed to be analysed at the student's pace and not under examination conditions.  They can be used to enhance practise in writing graphic notation and aural analysis.  Each excerpt of music has a main focus question.  Also included are other activities which will provide various approaches to aural analysis.
