There is an underlying static texture in three layers, each of three notes. Within each layer the durations of all the notes are the same, but between each layer they are different. Thus the notes of each layer phase with each other, their attacks rarely coinciding. Superimposed on this slowly changing chordal texture are two sporadically-occurring loud chordal gestures each containing nine different notes. Composed 2014

The “modal concept began in ancient Greece and underwent stages in which the modes grew from four modes to twelve modes over the centuries. Early Christian, Jewish and Eastern cultures contributed to what became known as the church modes or Gregorian modes of the Middle Ages, from about 500 - 1500CE, in Europe. The modes retain their original Greek names: "Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian." (shockwave sound.com). Also included is the Phrygian Dominant Mode, also known as the Jewish Frygian.

However, when taken to Europe, extra dance steps were invented to fit into groups of 8s. I heard a modern tango, with its faster tempo so this explores the grouping of 5 within this faster tempo". The piece employs voice leading, shifting harmonies and a long, long melody.
