SSAA Traditional Spiritual, c.4'15This arrangement presents a medley of three spirituals, beginning very solemnly and becoming progressively more upbeat, eventually combining two of the songs together before concluding with a short reprise of the first song. It provides an opportunity both for immersing oneself thoroughly in somber, rich harmonies and for having a rollicking good time! After all, these songs not only expressed a great deal of abject misery but also provided an outlet for finding and expressing great spiritual joy.

SATB choir and piano, c.4'30Words taken from a letter 'home' written in 1941 by the composer's older brother, Russell Keats, while serving in HMAS Canberra during WW II. The heavy cruiser was on escort duties in the Indian Ocean with relentless temperatures of 38C but despite this he wrote graphically of the natural beauty and wonders surrounding him, words, which in themselves lent to this song. Composed 2017
