Why has she been described as lazy? Is she old and arthritic? Or is she a young working dog at the end of a long day? Has she been rounding up sheep in the hot sun? In either case, doesn't she now deserve to walk slowly onto a cool verandah and rest in the shade, without the indignity of a rude fox leaping over her?

Each verse begins on a different pitch and basically adheres to a similar rhythmic pattern although each verse adds embellishments. The whole piece uses one mode, the fourth of the South Indian melakartas.
