Auftauchen der Nacht

By Peter Mcnamara

Regular price $150.00 Sale

Orchestral, c.11- 12 mins

This linear structure begins with murky material, as the light of dusk can be when Night has not fully fallen. Clearer material and musical layers, including melodic lines in the oboes and clarinets as well as a rhythmically driven bass line in the bassoons, tuba and contrabasses, replace this murkiness gradually. Quartertones appear incorporated into Harmonic Fields as the work progresses. These are placed on top of each other during the middle section with mostly Brass emphasising one while mostly Strings and Woodwinds the other. These accumulate in intensity to a climactic point.

Auld Lang Syne

By Kathleen Mcguire

Regular price $10.00 Sale

TTBB choir, tin whistle and guitar.  c.5'00

Auld Lang Syne is a traditional, Scottish poem that was adapted by Robert Burns in 1788. In English, a literal translation is “old long since,” or more colloquially: “long, long ago” or “days of long ago.” For hundreds of years, the poem has been set to a traditional folk song, of which there are many variations. The tune used here - the original, pentatonic melody Burns chose to set with the poem - is nowadays less familiar than the modern tune that is most commonly heard sung by revellers in many countries at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. Burns, when he presented the song to the British Museum, remarked: "The following song, an old song, of the olden times, and which has never been in print, nor even in manuscript until I took it down from an old man's singing, is enough to recommend any air." The original folk song to which it was set was known as: "I fee'd a lad at Michaelmas.”
Composed 2009 .

New music for viola and piano by Australian Composers

Dawn Bennett, viola and Diana Blom, piano

When two musicians undertake research into the music they perform, thoughts will inevitably turn to a creative research project in which they can put this focus into practice. Australia East and West sought to foster national and international interest in contemporary classical music written by Australian composers through new music for viola and piano.
The project was devised by composer and pianist Diana Blom and violist Dawn Bennett, who commissioned, performed, recorded and researched a program of new works for viola and piano by Australian composers – Alice Humphries, Michael Hannan, John Encarnacao, Nicole Murphy, Cat Hope, Diana Blom, Lisa Cheney, and Clare Maclean.
The project resulted in nine new works which connected to the project title through their exploration of aural, cultural and creative notions of Eastern and Western Australia. Diana lives in Sydney and Dawn in Perth, so the two sides of the large Australian continent were in our minds, and we had associations with composers on each coast.

Australian Choral Anthology Volume 1 - SATB

By choral

Regular price $40.00 Sale

$30.00 for instant PDF download complete Volume 1  Buy Now

16 works for SATB with distinctly Australian content, composed by various Australian composers.

A ‘call for scores’ requested that the word content must be of ‘distinctly Australian flavour’. More than 40 works were submitted, obviously more than one volume!  Hence, three volumes have emerged with one each for SATB choirs (mostly with piano accompaniment); a SA choir; and choir with instruments other than piano (with separate instrument parts).  As a result, their words have captured our Australian fabric; gum trees, many types of birds - kookaburras, magpies, currawong, even the Noisy Miner, and more - brumbies, bushfires, climate, seasons, and of course, arrangements of traditional folk songs.

Overall, we have tried to make this project as accessible as possible to ensure that this Australian music is heard and appreciated by many and enjoyed by the singers.

Multiple choir copies of any of the works can be purchased individually under license at very reasonable rates. Please contact keats@wirripang.com.au
