Quartet in G minor or 'House Quartet'
By Margaret Sutherland
Regular price
$90.00
For clarinet (violin), viola, horn (cello) and piano.
This publication marks the first ever published version of the quartet. It is felt that the original scoring for clarinet and horn suits the material very well and so even though this score is published as a piano quartet (piano plus three strings) it also includes parts for the alternative instrumentation of clarinet and horn. It was given its first performance at a Red Cross midday concert in June 1943.
Date of composition 1942

Poems by Jack Davis
The poems of indigenous playwright, poet and activist Jack Davis (1917-2000) are significant for their clarity, beauty and ability to impart an indigenous point of view through a Western medium. Reacting to cultural differences and restrictions often imposed by white society, Davis sought to reclaim his people’s culture and history, fighting for existence, land and rights. His poems reflect survival, identity and inclusion.
The Quiet River is in five parts and begins with a call to country, connecting land and sky. A women’s only choir is used throughout to reflect the association of the Emu with the mother.
