Grade 8Reflèts (reflections) are manifest in several ways: the piece is in three sections, slow-fast-slow, with material from the first section revisited in the third, thereby creating a rough symmetry about the centre; the principal melodies, especially in the slow movements, are turned more-or-less upside down, in the way of reflections in water (even rippley water such as the sea – la Mer).

I have always enjoyed the rich harmonic textures of early music. This piece could be compared to those older fantasia styled pieces but with more of a modern twist.
