Stony Town

By Ross Fiddes

Regular price $10.00 Sale

For SSATB a capella or with piano accompaniment, c.4'10

Words by John Shaw Neilson

“Stony Town”, derives its power from the fact that although it engages a fairly trite opposition – that between the city and the bush – and although it is written as a simple ballad, it draws on and thus celebrates the transformative power of poetry and the imagination rather than content itself with a critique of the mercantile world. From Australian Poetry Journal, 2:2 (December, 2012)

Composed 1976 and 1983

Streetscape at Noon

By Paul Paviour

Regular price $170.00 Sale

Overture for orchestra

Streetscape at Noon is an orchestral impression of a busy main street on perhaps a Saturday morning. Although no specific events are portrayed, hopefully the listener can visualise traffic jams, finding somewhere to park, a band playing somewhere, buskers in shop doorways etc. Then perhaps there are little places, possibly a small park where we rest for a while as we gaze up at the tall buildings, and a large crane dominating the skyline on a construction site.  Composed 2018

String Quartet

By John Terry

Regular price $140.00 Sale

String Quartet in three movements, c.21'00

The first movement has flowing melodic modal lines alongside dissonant stabbing harmonies.  The second comprises quickly-changing tempi plus instrumental arguments and counter-arguments.  The finale highlights frequent character-changes including playfulness and counterpoint against thick homophonic stabbings.  The cello plays a soloistic role throughout, often in counter-relationship with other players.

String Quartet

By Tony Wheeler

Regular price $70.00 Sale

Three movements for String Quartet

This work follows somewhat classical principles in its conception and structure. Much of the harmonic and melodic material of all three movements is derived from (i) a twelve note tone row; and (ii) the use of modes. The use of the tone row is not entirely strict, and it frequently appears in almost tonal contexts.

String Quartet

By Meta Overman

Regular price $100.00 Sale

String Quartet.

The quartet is in four movements using the traditional structure of fast, fast (scherzo), slow and fast. The opening movement is canonic and the writing simplistic but motivic, based on a rhythmical rather than a harmonic motive. The motives are established at the beginning of each movement and underpin the structure of the whole movement. The third movement melody is a tone row which appears firstly in violin 1 and then is adopted by all four instruments. The final movement is a fast dance.
  • Allegro moderato
  • Allegro scherzando
  • Adagio sostenuto
  • Allegro

Composed in 1939

Edited by Jeanell Carrigan.

String Quartet 1

By Timothy Franklin

Regular price $75.00 Sale

String Quartet in five movements.

Movement I is the modification to the classical formal structure. It serves as a prelude to the more formally and harmonically complex later movements. Movement II is the start of the ‘classical’ quartet structure – a traditionally brisk opening movement in a minimalist sonata form.
Movement III is a slow movement in ternary form, featuring harmony consisting largely of structures generated using stacked fifths of various types.
Movement IV is a Scherzo featuring a needling chromatic melody that is not quite in the key of F minor.
Movement V is in a form inspired by a certain Beethoven piano sonata in C minor, that of a sonata form with a slow introduction. It utilises an odd meter to convey both aggressive and ‘singing’ material, and synthesises intervallic, polytonal, and modal harmonic approaches.
