   This wonderful CD was inspired by the music of Chris Donaldson's 32 Variations for Piano on Happy Birthday, a tribute to the many composers from the Baroque period to the present day. Chris appropriated between one and five of each composer’s best-known works, 86 in all, into medleys, then altered them to include fragments of the Happy Birthday tune in subtle, and sometimes, not so subtle ways. The Happy Birthday theme often appears as a simple rhythmic figure, or it may be stretched, flattened or truncated melodically and harmonically.
Included in the CD are works by Ann Carr-Boyd from her "Percy's" series and a more sensitive work by John Martin.
All pieces are performed by the accomplished pianist John Martin.
