Riff Madness IV involves a constant flow in quavers of changing five-note patterns in five-eight-metre. The resulting right-hand improvisation, which should take account of the harmonic implications of the left-hand part, is intended to be more minimalistic and ambient than bluesy or jazzy, but not to be limited to the range of possible interpretations. The score could also serve as a piano study for left-hand or right-hand, or both hands in octaves.
