The opening chordal flourishes reflect the startlingly magnificent seascape. Thereafter, a few descending sequences which are slightly dissonant and ornate, reflect on a “tonal” portrayal of the stepping down to the beach. Snippets of tango rhythms and the Brazilian samba are thrown into the summery ‘romp’ rhythms and movement of shifting sands beneath the gentle waves on this beautiful Sydney beach. Hence, the word “rompango” which sums up the essence of the lighthearted and very lyrical jazz-like prelude.
