Passing Through the VeilHeart Matters Volume 2 follows on from Heart Matters, and in similar fashion, is something of a compendium, a weighing together and balancing of thoughts, reflections and feelings with no rhyme to their reason or reason for their rhyme, save the occasional odd poem or two.
As much as there is no definitive autobiographical bent about the pages of this presentation, to place random diary entries aside, every thought and subtle disclosure moves beyond the surface of its expression, to hopefully engage the reader inter-connectedly with the inner dynamics of a thinking mind. Indeed, the feeling I had on coalescing end page to end page the entries herein, was that I was not only writing from my mind, be it consciously or otherwise, but forming a mind in the process.
And, as with the previous volume, whatever the outcome, I hope that you, the reader, enjoy the sharing as much as I have pleasure in offering it to you. Perhaps it is that you will bring to my words more wisdom on reading them than I have in writing them, for what you recognize something as being, is also a measure of you.

Heavy Rock Metal Dancer meet the BaroQ Bear, The

The BaroQ Bear is a character from the Grunewald (Green Forest) in Berlin of the the early 1700s. He habitually composes preludes, fugues and toccatas in abundance, conjecturing what he perceives as logical, balanced tonal relationships and brilliantly opposing thematic arguments. He time-travels to the twenty-first century and has an encounter with a long-haired young man carrying an electric guitar. He is astounded by the young man’s nonchalant demeanor.
As the young man begins to play rock music on his guitar, the Bear becomes increasingly perturbed by the illogical harmonic nuances in his musical output.
He seemed to be hammering out the same few notes and making a metallic noise which the BaroQ bear perceived as irritating and tediously wearisome. He speaks to the young man slowly and explains the logic of counterpoint, and a better way to create good music. The two of them play together, each in his own way, and finally, after a lengthy narration from the BaroQ bear, they merge and settle the score in an amicable manner.

This is a virtuosic work for violin and piano. It had never been published previously and on the manuscript, there was no composition date. As its title suggests the work belongs to those composed in a Jewish style in which Phillips established herself as one of the leading composers in Australia in the twentieth century. The work is in ternary form and characterised by an interplay of melodies between the two instruments.
